Men 4B : classwork
As part of preparation for the mid year examination, here I prepared some questions on the topic stated below. Print these questions so that we can discuss the solutions in the next lesson. If you want to try them first, you are most welcomed and also, if you have any question on that, please do approach me. I will prepare some more questions for the other topics, Insya-Allah since I want you girls to produce an outstanding results.
ARITHMETIC PROBLEMS, SIMPLE FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS, PROFIT AND LOSS, SIMPLE INTEREST
Examples
- In a shop, a bicycle is priced at $451. The price includes Government Tax at 10%. How much is the tax?
- Apples cost 12 cents each. John has a $5 note and wishes to buy as many apples as possible. Calculate

- Calculate the simple interest when Rs330 is invested for 8 months at 7% per annum.
- A shopkeeper sold a book for Rs180. He made a profit of 20%. Calculate the cost price of the book.
- The exchange rate between the European Euro (€) and the American dollar ($) during one summer was €1 to $1.60.
- How many dollars would an Englishman get for €400?
- How many Euro would an American get for $800?
- The owner of a toyshop made a profit of 40% on every toy which he sold.
- Find the selling price of a football which cost the shopkeeper $11.
- Find the cost price of a doll which the shopkeeper sold for $28
- The shopkeeper made a profit of $10 when he sold a kite. Calculate the selling price of the kite.

- A bank charges $28 simple interest on a sum of money which is borrowed for four months. Given that the rate of interest is 15% per annum, calculate the sum of money.

- The total cost of a car service consists of a basic price plus a tax of 15%. Given that the total cost is $69, calculate the basic price of the service.
- A bank exchanges French currency for Bruneian currency at the rate of 11 francs to the BND.
- Calculate, in francs, the amount received in exchange for BND12.50
- Calculate, to the nearest cents, the amount received in exchange for 80 francs.
- A man earning BND5625 per annum is awarded a pay rise of 8%. Calculate his new annual salary.

- A sum of BND350 is invested at simple interest and amounts to BND476 after 3 years. Calculate

- Find the change from $5 after buying 28 pencils at 15c each.
- An aircraft arrives at its destination at 01 07 after a flight lasting 2 hours 23 minutes. Find the time at which the aircraft started its journey.
- A car uses petrol at an average rate of 7.5 liters per 100 km. The owner spends BND20 on petrol costing 80c per liter. Calculate, correct to the nearest kilometer, the distance his car will travel on the amount of petrol.
- Find the simple interest obtained when BND125 is invested at 8% for a period of 8 months.
- A lady buys an article marked at BND6.40 but, in addition, has to pay 15% tax. Calculate the total amount that she has to pay.
